About Lauren Penney
Lauren is a medical anthropologist, currently working as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate for BARA. For the past 10 years, she has worked, in many different capacities, on five projects for Drs. Austin and McGuire studying the history and impacts of the offshore oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico. Presently she is a community ethnographer for the second phase of a series of studies examining the ongoing and evolving sociocultural impacts of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster on two regions of coastal Louisiana. As a Post-Doc, through BARA's internship program, Lauren has also worked on an annual client survey and scoping community ethnography of Amado and Green Valley for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
