BARA and Indigenous Mapping Workshops Group

On September 18-19, representatives from the SoA and the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology met with tribal, state, and federal archaeologists in Helena, Montana to organize and conduct a meeting aimed at bringing the Blackfeet Indian Tribe and other federally recognized indigenous groups in the Northern Plains into the Indigenous Mapping Workshops group, via training sponsored by Google Earth Outreach.

Stoffle Presents at Arches

On Saturday, August 26, Richard Stoffle (Professor of Anthropology; Research Anthropologist, Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology) made a special presentation at Arches National Park titled “Tribal Connections to Arches National Park.” Dr. Stoffle shared findings from the recently completed Ethnographic Overview and Assessment of Arches National Park.

Sheridan’s Banned Book

With hearings on TUSD’s Mexican American Studies program currently under way in the U.S. District Court for Arizona, a recent article in High Country News lists some of the books banned by a 2010 Arizona law, including Professor Thomas Sheridan’s Los Tucsonenses.

Zedeño Participates in NSF Workshop

Maria Nieves Zedeño, Professor of Anthropology, was among those invited to participate in the NSF Workshop on “Environmental History of the Great Plains” organized by K. Brosnan (University of Oklahoma, Norman) and B. Frehner (University of Missouri, Kansas City), on May 21–25, 2017.
