Associate Professor Mamadou Baro represented the School of Anthropology as part of the University of Arizona delegation to the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition Luncheon this past Wednesday, May 22. This Coalition is a broad-based influential network of 500 businesses and NGOs, national security, and foreign policy experts trying to build a better and safer world. The event took place at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown in Phoenix.
During the months of April and May, Dr. Noah Pleshet, BARA Research Scientist, undertook fieldwork and scoping consultations about a new research project idea in central Australia, focused on applied outcomes of research on road infrastructure and cultural landscapes. Though in early project planning and permissions stages, Dr. Pleshet will aim to develop the project with a range of potential partners including tribal governments, agencies, and private sector logistics and engineering providers.
Two National Science Foundation grants awarded to School of Anthropology faculty members in the past week total more than $1 million! Congratulations to Professors María Nieves Zedeño and David Killick, and BARA Research Scientist François B. Lanoë (Ph.D. Arizona, 2017).
