Native American Epistemic Landscapes

the Blackfeet reservation in Montana.

Working from the perspective that landscapes not only furnish nature’s knowledge to human society but are also a repository of human knowledge, research on Blackfoot epistemic landscapes entails mapping and documenting reservation-era hunting and other cultural practices in the Badger-Two Medicine Traditional Cultural District in Montana, the reconstruction of pre-contact bison hunting landscapes along the Two Medicine River in the Blackfeet Reservation, an examination of early monumental architecture, and survey of vision quest sites.
