BARA works with tribes to document the Indian Boarding School System, which has become the epitome of the United States philosophy of assimilation for cultural extinction toward Native Americans, and help resolve this painful historical trauma.
2022-23: BARA conducted archival and archaeological research at the Pius X school in Skagway, Alaska, at the bequest of the Skagway Traditional Council.
2024-on: With funds from the National Endowment of the Humanities, BARA will conduct archival and archaeological research at the Willow Creek Indian Boarding School in the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Montana, at the bequest of the Blackfeet Tribe.
