BARA researchers have also done research on ranching and agricultural communities in Northwest Mexico. One study, funded by NASA and done in collaboration with the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) 1996-1997, focused on the Economic and Demographic Causes of Land Use Change in the municipio of Alamos, Mexico. This project was led by Dr. Marcela Vasquez-Leon and Dr. Diana Liverman.
A more recent study (2004) funded by CONAHEC looked at the Environmental Indicators for Sustainable Agriculture in several municipios located in the northern region of the state of Sonora. The study was done in collaboration with the Colegio de Sonora, Mexico.
