CENTENNIAL UPDATE: The Anthropology of Food and Nutrition

Next weekend will be filled with the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition, so get ready! There’s still time to sign up for next Saturday’s tour of Tumamoc Hill with Professors Emeriti Suzanne Fish and Paul Fish. “Local Foods from Tucson's Past” begins at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, on the Arizona State Museum lawn. Whether or not you participate in the tour, you’ll want to be at ASM from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday for “10,000 Years of Eating in the Southwest,” with tours, music, and Southwestern specialty foods. Earlier in the week, on Thursday evening, April 23, the Centennial presents “Up in Smoke: The History of Barbecue with Host Steven Raichlen.” There will be a Friday afternoon symposium on the 24th titled “The Human Appetite: A Symposium on Food and Anthropology.” It features Associate Professors Maribel AlvarezMamadou Baro, and Ivy Pike; recent graduate Ashley Stinnett (Ph.D. Arizona, 2014); and graduate students Victoria Moses and Amanda Hilton. One April Event Today: If you are currently attending this year’s Society for American Archaeology annual meeting in San Francisco, this afternoon (Friday, April 17) at 3:00 p.m. the University of Arizona Press will host a reception in honor of the School of Anthropology’s Centennial in their booth at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. (Original Digest publication date: 4/17/15)
