April’s Centennial events are inspired by National Food Month and National Garden Month and are centered around the theme of the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition. “Up in Smoke: The History of Barbecue with Host Steven Raichlen” is the opening event on Thursday evening, April 23. On Friday afternoon, April 24, “The Human Appetite: A Symposium on Food and Anthropology.” The symposium features Associate Professors Maribel Alvarez, Mamadou Baro, and Ivy Pike; recent graduate Ashley Stinnett (Ph.D. Arizona, 2014); and graduate students Victoria Moses and Amanda Hilton.

Also in April: Are you attending this year’s Society for American Archaeology annual meeting in San Francisco?
